Support for the current browser build: local storage, exports, imports, journal posting, periods, reports, and privacy posture.

Common questions
Where is my Ledvo book stored?
In your browser profile’s local private filesystem for the Ledvo origin. https://www.ledvo.app and https://ledvo.app are separate browser origins, so use the canonical www.ledvo.app address consistently. Your book is not stored in a Ledvo cloud account because there is no Ledvo cloud account.
What files does Ledvo actually store on my device?
A single SQLite database file inside your browser profile’s Origin Private File System. That file is sandboxed: your operating system’s file browser does not show it, you cannot drag-copy it from Finder or Explorer, and other apps on your device cannot read it. The only way to extract its contents is through Ledvo’s export feature.
What does Ledvo download to my browser when I visit?
The same static assets every visitor gets: a small HTML page, the JavaScript app bundle, styling, icons, and the WebAssembly accounting engine. The engine is the largest piece (about 1.5 MB) and is the same file for everyone — it is not per-user-customized. Once your browser caches it, repeat visits do not re-download it.
Does Ledvo download the accounting engine into OPFS?
No. The app loads the WebAssembly engine as a normal web asset when you create, import, or open a local book. OPFS stores the ledger file for that browser profile; it does not store the engine.
What happens if I say no to persistent storage?
The app can still run, but your browser may be more willing to clear local storage under storage pressure. You can usually ask again from Ledvo Settings, or change the site’s storage permission in your browser settings.
Export your book before clearing browser data, switching browser profiles, switching browsers, wiping a device, or relying on Ledvo for anything important.
What different “clear” actions do to your book
Browser settings group several different things under names that sound similar but mean very different things. The short version: “cache” is safe, “site data” deletes your book, and “history” depends on your browser.
What happens if I clear my browser cache?
Your book survives.
“Cache” in browser settings means the HTTP cache — cached copies of the JavaScript, CSS, and WebAssembly files Ledvo serves. Your accounting book is not in the cache. Clearing the cache means your next visit will re-download Ledvo’s app files; the book inside OPFS is untouched.
What happens if I clear cookies and site data?
Your book is deleted. There is no recovery without an export.
“Cookies and other site data” includes the Origin Private File System, which is where Ledvo stores your book. Once that is cleared, the file is gone from this browser profile permanently.
Does clearing browser history delete my book?
This depends on your browser:
- Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and other Chromium browsers — “Browsing history” is a separate checkbox from “Cookies and other site data.” If you check only “Browsing history,” your book survives. The default “Clear all” option also checks site data and will delete your book.
- Firefox — Same separation. Clearing only history keeps your book; clearing “Cookies and Site Data” deletes it.
- Safari on macOS — “Clear History…” is bundled with website data. There is no way in modern Safari to clear only history without also clearing the storage your book lives in. Export before doing this.
- Safari on iPhone or iPad — “Clear History and Website Data” is the same bundled action. Export your book first, then clear, then re-import on the same device if you want to start fresh.
The general rule: if a browser action mentions “site data” or “website data” anywhere, assume it will delete your book.
Does private or incognito mode keep my book?
No. Private and incognito windows either disable persistent storage entirely or wipe it when the window closes. If you create a book in a private window, you will lose it as soon as the window closes. Use a normal browser window for any book you want to keep.
Will the browser auto-delete my book if I run out of disk space?
If persistent storage was granted, the browser will keep your book through normal storage pressure. Ledvo asks for persistent storage when you first set up a book.
If persistent storage was not granted, the browser may evict OPFS data when storage runs low, with no warning. You can re-request persistent storage from Settings, and you can always check storage health in your browser’s site settings for www.ledvo.app.
What if I switch to a different browser, or use Ledvo in two browsers?
Each browser has its own Origin Private File System. A book you created in Chrome is not visible in Firefox, even on the same device, even on the same login. To move a book between browsers, export it from the old browser and import it into the new one.
What if I switch browser profiles in the same browser?
Each browser profile (work profile vs personal profile in Chrome, for example) has its own OPFS. The same export-and-import workflow applies.
How do I uninstall Ledvo?
There is no installer. To remove Ledvo from a device:
- If you want to keep your book, export it first.
- Use your browser’s site settings for
www.ledvo.appand choose “Clear data,” or use the in-app Settings to clear your local book. - The Ledvo product page is just a website — closing the tab is enough to “stop using it.” There is nothing else to uninstall.
Can someone else on my computer read my book?
In principle, anyone with access to your browser profile can also access the OPFS file from inside a browser tab on the same origin. Ledvo runs in your browser; if a different user has your unlocked browser, they can open Ledvo and see the book.
OPFS files are not encrypted at rest by the browser. The protections are at the operating-system and browser-profile level: device login, screen lock, separate user accounts, and separate browser profiles. Treat your browser profile the way you would treat any folder of sensitive financial documents.
Which browsers work best?
Ledvo needs modern browser storage APIs. Recent Chromium-based browsers are the safest path today. Safari and Firefox support varies by version and platform.
If the app says your browser is unsupported, open it in a regular browser window instead of an in-app browser.
Is Ledvo free?
Yes. Ledvo has no paid tier today. The Ledvo app repository remains private while the product is pre-release.
Does Ledvo give accounting advice?
No. Ledvo is software. It is not accounting, tax, legal, audit, or financial advice.
Can I use Ledvo for a real business?
Use judgment. Ledvo is built around real double-entry mechanics, but the current product is not a certified compliance system and has no hosted multi-user controls. For serious business use, involve a qualified accountant, keep exports, and validate your jurisdiction’s requirements.
Why can’t I post into a closed period?
That is intentional. Once a period is soft-closed, closed, or locked, Ledvo blocks postings into it. If you need to correct a closed period, use the period workflow and reversing/correction entries instead of editing posted history.
Can I edit a posted journal entry?
Posted entries should not be edited directly. Ledvo uses voids and reversals so the audit trail remains understandable.
How do I move my book to another browser or device?
Use the export/import flow:
- Open Settings.
- Export your book as JSON.
- Move that JSON file to the other device yourself.
- Open Ledvo in the other browser profile at
https://www.ledvo.app. - Import the JSON snapshot before setting up a new book there.
I cleared browser data. Can you recover my book?
No. Ledvo does not have a backend copy. If you cleared the local book and do not have an export, there is nothing for us to restore.
Where should I report bugs?
Use the form below or email directly. Helpful reports include:
- browser name and version
- operating system
- whether you were using private/incognito mode
- what you clicked
- the exact error message
- whether you can reproduce it with a new book
